Prof. Yoshiharu YONEKURA, the president of the National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS) visited the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), CAS from October 20 to 23, 2010 and delivered a talk entitled “Radiological Science for Cancer Treatment - Advanced treatment requires better diagnosis”. This is the first time visit for the president of NIRS to IMP.

Because heavy-ion cancer therapy has attracted growing interest all over the world, NIRS has already been an important collaborating partner of IMP. Prof. YONEKURA introduced NIRS briefly in the beginning of his talk and then showed the clinical trial of heavy ion radiotherapy at NIRS. He emphasized that molecular imaging is very useful for cancer diagnosis and treatment prognosis. Finally he suggested some ideas for the future collaboration between the scientists at IMP and NIRS.

During his visit, Prof. YONEKURA also discussed the future collaboration between IMP and NIRS with the director of IMP, Prof. Guoqing XIAO. Both sides came to consensus on academic and personnel exchanges through this visit.
