Prof. George Dracoulis, who is the head of the Department of Nuclear Physics of National Australian University and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, visited the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences(IMP) on April 23-26, 2011 for scientific exchange.
During his visit to IMP, Prof. Dracoulis gave a lecture on the Deep Inelastic Reactions and K-Isomers, followed by intense discussions about the nuclear structure.
Prof. Dracoulis also visited the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou(HIRFL), the Cooling Storage Ring(CSR), and the Radioactive Ion Beam line in Lanzhou(RIBLL).
Prof. Dracoulis met with Mr. XIE Ming, the deputy president of Lanzhou Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and they exchanged views and ideas about the future cooperation between the two sides. The both sides agreed on furthering the exchange of scientists.
Prof. Dracoulis’s research interests focus on the spectroscopy and structure of unusual nuclear states. He has published extensivelyin the field’s top journals on such topics as shape co-existence, the properties of high-spin isomers in trans-lead nuclei, and the structure and applications of high-K isomers.
