On May 3, 2011, the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) appointed Dr. WU Xiaoyu as a CAS Visiting Professor.
WU Xiaoyu earned his doctoral degree in Physics at the Michigan State University (MSU), USA in 1991. Dr. WU is a Senior Fellow of National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) at MSU. He is being engaged in accelerator physics research and is responsible for liaison between NSCL and IMP according to a memorandum signed by the two research institutions.
At the appointment ceremony, Prof. Xiao Guoqing, the director-general of IMP, anticipated that Dr. WU’s appointmentis a significant step forward towards furthering the cooperation between IMP and NSCL, especially in developing the high-power heavy ion superconducting linac technology with his vast expertise and experience in the field. Prof. WU’s new role at IMP will also be to give advice on making technical breakthrough in the project of Accelerator Driven System (ADS), which is launched by CAS and carried out mainly by IMP.
