Dr. YAN Xiaoping from Seagate Technology visited the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics of the CAS on June 28. He made two lectures entitled “Lubricant Development & Integration for Ferroelectric Probe Recording” and “Aqueous Lubrication by Means of Surface-Bound Brush-Like Copolymers” respectively.
In his first report, YAN introduced the background of ferroelectric probe recording technology, chemical structure and probe properties of probe lubricants and their application in ferroelectric probe recording. In the second report, YAN introduced the aqueous lubrication, brush-like copolymer in tribology, synthesis of PLL-g-PEG, tribological performance of PLL-g-PEG on macular level and the parameters determining tribological properties of PLL-g-PEG.
YAN Xiaoping was invited by the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication.
YAN graduated from Tianjin University in 1991. He served in Petrochemical Research Institute of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company (LPCR) from 1991 to 1998 and received his master’s degree from Lanzhou University during this period. He studied in Institute of Chemistry of the CAS from 1998 and 2001 and received his doctor’s degree there. In 2002 he did his post doctor’s research in Huston University. And since 2005 he has worked in Seagate Technology.
Seagate Technology was founded in 1979 with its headquarter in Scotts Valley. It is the largest manufacturer of hard disks, magnetic discs and read and write heads.
