On August 20, 2013, an excellent talk entitled "The falcon genome project" was gaven by professor Mike Bruford from Cardiff University who was invited by professor Tongzuo Zhang at the comprehensive research building. He clearly introduced the falcon genome project progress which has been published in the journal of Nature Genetics. The report was very interesting and popular and his patient and meticulous explanations, humorous language won himself warm applause. After the report, more than 30 participating teachers and master students discussed many interesting questions for a quite long time. Mike Bruford, who got his zoology doctorate from University of Leicester in 1992 and formerly engaged in scientific research in University of Leicester and Institute of Zoology, Zoological Society of London, is now a professor in Cardiff School of Bioscience. His research interests center on animal population genetics, conservation genetics, molecular ecology and evolutionary genome and has published more than 250 papers in Nature,Science,Current Biology,Molecular Ecology and other international journals.
