The 2010 HIRFL (Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou) User Meeting was held at the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), CAS on March 28,2010.
Profs. ZHAO Hongwei and XU Hushan, the vice directors of IMP, introduced respectively the status of HIRFL and the achievements accomplished in HIRFL experiments. Prof. XIAO Guoqing, the director of IMP, gave a presentation focusing on the background, the construction description, the specific scientific objectives, and the current resources of the Lanzhou heavy-Ion Advanced-Facility (LIAF). User representatives talked about the achievements obtained in HIRFL experiments, and the future requests for heavy ion beams in the research fields of single event effect, heavy ion cancer therapy, space radiation biology, function material, atomic physics, and nuclear physics.
Panel sessions in various research fields were held in the afternoon. Constructive suggestions about the scientific objectives and future construction of HIRFL and LIAF were proposed. The participants of the meeting also expressed their wishes for the early establishment of LIAF.
More than 140 experts from 83 research institutions attended the meeting
