On April 23, 2010, YUAN Zhanting, the mayor of Lanzhou city, as well as other guests, visited Institute of Modern Physics(IMP), CAS for his investigation on nuclear technology application and industrialization. Lanzhou is the capital of Gansu Province, China.
Prof. ZHAO Hongwei, the vice director of IMP, introduced to the guests the research activities, achievements, and future plans of IMP. YUAN Zhanting expressed the support from the city government for the construction of Heavy Ion Tumor thErapy facility in Lanzhou (HITEL) and the concern for the construction of new residential buildings for IMP employees. YUAN praised the construction plan of IMP for large-scale facility in the 12th five-year Plan period, and expressed his wish for the early realization of the plan.
YUAN also visited Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL), Cooling & Storage Ring of HIRFL (HIRFL-CSR), and terminals for heavy ion cancer therapy. Prof. ZHAO introduced in detail the accurate orientation techniques, the treatment results, and the perspectives of heavy ion cancer therapy. YUAN also showed great interests in the realization of other nuclear technology transformations and industrializations of IMP.
