Prof. Steve Gourlay and Dr. Derun LI from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory（LBNL）, USA, visited Institute of Modern Physics(IMP), CAS on May 20-21. Prof. Steve Gourlay is the director of the Accelerator and Fusion Research Division at LBNL.

　　Prof. Steve Gourlay and Dr Derun LI visited the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL), the Cooling & Storage Ring (CSR), the Heavy Ion Cancer Therapy Center, and the Superconducting Magnet Laboratory at IMP, followed by lectures and discussions about the future collaboration between LBNL and IMP in the fields of high current linear accelerator, high-intensity magnetic field superconducting magnet, pulse line ion accelerator, and high energy density physics. Both sides agreed that cooperation in the above-mentioned fields should be strengthened and the personnel exchanges be enhanced.

　　Prof. Steve Gourlay and Prof. Guoqing XIAO, the director of IMP, signed the MOU between IMP and LBNL for cooperation in 2010-2011.
