The 2010 conference on commending national model workers and advanced workers was held in the Great Hall of the People,in Beijing on Apr.27.At the conference the State Council awarded the title of national advanced worker to 870 people.Lai Yuanming form the Cold and Arid Regions Environmetal and Engineering Institute earned the titile of advanced worker.
Chinese President HuJintao delivered an important speech at the conference,He stressed that the realization of the objectives of constrction must rely on all the people. All our people should lover labor, respect labor, protect labor and labor assiduously.we should carry forward the hard working spirit of model worker and try to do our best to become model worker.
For a long period of time,Lai Yuanming ,Research fellow of CAREERI, has been working in the forefront of the scientifie research of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. He systematically conducted the theoretical study of engineering in cold region, put forward the forecast method and key control technigues of frost damages, and made important innovation and progress in the theoretical research of engineering calculation in cold region. His research results reveal the temperature drop mechanism of block stone-macadam roadbed and define the grain-size range of the better tempreture-drop effect of such roadbed. He first in the world developed a mathematic model for the temperature field and flow field characters of open-boundary block stone-macadam roabded in the studied permafrost region, thereby resolve the key difficult problem in the coupling heat transfer temperature calculation of such fluid and solid-bearing block stone-macadam roadbed of the Qinghai-Tibetan railway.Lai Yuanming as the first performer won the second-class prize of national scientific and technological advance and the first-class prize of scientific and technological advance of Gansu province and in 2008 won the special prize of national scientific and technological advance (as one of principal recipients). In 2002 he won the scientifie research fund for outstanding young scientists.
