A delegation from the Biophysical Research Group at Institute of Modern Physics(IMP),CAS, headed by Prof. LI Wenjian, visited Institute of Biological Technology and Agricultural Engineering, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, CAS (CASHIPS ) for academic exchanges on 22-25 July 2010.
Prof. WU Yuejin from CASHIPS introduced the major research activities of the ion beam bioengineering laboratories and the preparatory work for the newly established Institute of Biological Technology and Agricultural Engineering,
The development status and future research prospects of sweet sorghum industry at IMP were introduced by Prof. LI Wenjian, which was very interesting to scientists ofInstitute of Biological Technology and Agricultural Engineering. He said sweet sorghum could be used as raw material for wine and sweet sorghum residue used as feed while Zymosan, β-glucan can be made with the sweet sorghum juice serving as fermentation raw materials. Prof. YU Zengliang spoke highly of the comprehensive utilization of sweet sorghum industry chain and said that the cooperation with IMP should be enhanced. He gladly accepted the invitation to visit IMP at an appropriate time. Talks on the heavy ion microbial breeding, space radiation biological effect, spectrum and energy crops were given by Dr. DANG Bingrong, Dr. CHEN Jihong, Dr. WANG Shuyang, Dr. LU Dong from IMP and Dr. HANG Qing, Dr. BIAN Po, Dr. ZHENG Zhiming, Dr. ZHANG Pingping from Institute of Biological Technology and Agricultural Engineering.
The IMP delegation also visited the accelerator and laboratories at Institute of Biological Technology and Agricultural Engineering, CASHIPS.
The scientists in charge of the four sub-projects of the knowledge innovation program of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Research on Microcosmic Process and Effects of the Interaction between Heavy Ions and Microorganisms, introduced the progress of their commitment. Prof. LI Wenjian and Prof. WU Yuejin praised the achievements by each sub project in the directional key projects of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Next steps of the project were discussed in depth.
Both sides agreed to carry out further cooperation on the biological effects research of heavy ion during the National Twelfth Five-Year Plan.
