The 6th Cross-Strait Seminar on Thin Film Science and Technology was held in Lanzhou from August 21 to August 22.

 

The Seminar lasted 2 days. Twenty-six experts engaging in the research or industrialization of thin films were invited to give reports. In their reports, the latest research achievements in thin films were introduced from the aspects of the preparation and characterization of new thin films, new techniques for the preparation of thin films, analysis of the performance of thin films and theoretical research on their performance, high-tech application of functional thin films, etc.

After the report, the conference participants visited the exhibition room, State Key Laboratory for Solid Lubrication and R&D Center of Lubricating and Protecting Materials of the LICP. They were acquainted with the research areas, construction of research platforms and research achievements, especially the achievements made in thin film science and technology in recent years by the LICP.

The Seminar was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), cross-strait sci-tech exchange center of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). It was hosted by the Surface Engineering Institution of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) and Taiwan Association for Coating and Thin Film Technology (TACT). It was organized by the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) and State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication of the LICP.

More than 100 people from over 40 research institutions, institutions of higher education and enterprises of both the mainland and Taiwan engaging in the research, design and production of thin films attended the Seminar.

The Seminar was co-chaired by Prof. XUE Qunji, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and director of the academic committee of the LICP, HUANG Zhaorui, director-general of the TACT. LI Ming, director of the division of engineering and materials of the NSFC, LI Hua, director of the cross-strait sci-tech exchange center of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, LIU Weimin, director of the LICP, delivered opening remarks respectively. SHI Zhenye, CPC Party Secretary of the Gansu Association for Science and Technology, was invited to attend the Seminar. The Seminar was presided over by Prof. CHEN Jianmin, chairman of the 4th standing committee of the Surface Engineering Committee and director of the R&D Center of Lubricating and Protecting Materials of the LICP, CAS. 

It is reported that since 2005, the Seminar has been held once a year to enhance the cross-strait academic exchanges of the research on thin film and promote mutual cooperation.
