During the recently held first meeting of the first academic committee of the Key Laboratory of Chemistry of Northwestern Plant Resources of the CAS, CAS members Prof. SUN Handong and Prof. ZHANG Yukui gave advice on the development of the Laboratory. They suggested the Laboratory strengthen the basic discipline-building and construction of research platforms.
Prof. SUN said that more attention should be paid to the interdisciplinary development and methodology for the research on natural products through making full use of the characteristic plant resources in the northwestern region.
Prof. ZHANG Yukui suggested that the construction of research platforms be enhanced to realize the integration of pretreatment of samples, separation and purification, preparation of components, identification, structural characterization and evaluation of pharmacological activity.
During the meeting, the two CAS members were also appointed the director and deputy director of the academic committee respectively.
Prof. SUN Handong is from the Kunming Institute of Botany of the CAS (KIB) and Prof. ZHANG Yukui Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the CAS (DICP).
