The 19th International Conference on Cyclotrons and Their Applications (CYCLOTRONS'10) was held in Lanzhou of China from Sept. 6 to 10, 2010. The CYCLOTRONS'10 was hosted by Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), CAS. It attracted over 170 scientists and experts from more than 50 research institutes in 21 countries around the world.
Dr. Hongwei ZHAO, deputy director of IMP and Mr. Zhanting YUAN, Mayor of Lanzhou city, presented a welcome address on behalf of organizing committee and the local government at the opening ceremony respectively.
CYCLOTRONS'10 is the 19th of the series initiated in 1959 in USA, and it was the first time for a conference of the series which was held in China. The scientific program includes the topics on the theory, application, status and development of cyclotrons, vacuum system, RF system, beam diagnostics, radioactive ion beam facility, FFAG accelerator, ion source, beam dynamics and beam stripper and so on.
Total 159 papers were submitted in this conference, including 33 invited oral presentations, 22 contributed oral presentations and over 90 poster presentations. These presentations reported the latest development and status on cyclotron technologies, applications and the related fields. Particularly, the commissioning results of the first non-scaling FFAG accelerator EMMA was reported at CYCLOTRONS'10, showing that the first circulated beam was measured by BPM system on Augt.16, 2010. Meanwhile, the newly operating machines such as JYFL MCC and VECC superconducting cyclotron, the development potential and the future applications including medical applications were also reported during conference. The ECR ion source performance was discussed in one of sessions due to its essentiality for high intensity beam. The superconducting ECR ion source SECRAL developed by IMP has been considered as one of the best 3rd generation ECR ion sources.
All attendees visited the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL) on Sept.9. The scientists and experts from IMP and other laboratories have discussed the potential on beam intensity enhancement at HIRFL-Cyclotrons and related topics.
All members of International Organizing Committee (IOC) attended the IOC meeting to discuss all the issues related to the international cyclotron conference. The 20th International Conference on Cyclotrons and Their Applications (CYCLOTRONS'13) will be held at Vancouver in Canada in September 2013, which will be hosted by TRIUMF--- the Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics.
CYCLOTRONS'10 was sponsored by 10 industrial companies from domestic and abroad. The sponsors exhibited the latest products during the conference.
