Prof. XUE Qunji

Modern Media and S&T Popularization Symposium was convened in Northwest Hotel, Lanzhou, on Dec.3. The Symposium was held with the goal of raising the scientific awareness of citizens in Lanzhou.

During the Symposium, the role modern media played in the popularization of science, innovation in traditional ways and other related factors in popularizing science were discussed.

Prof. XUE Qunji, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the academic committee of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (LICP) of the CAS, attended the Symposium and made an invited report entitled “Popularization of science is the responsibility of scientists.”

In his report, Prof. XUE compared the popularization of science in China and foreign countries, analyzed the necessity of the popularization of science and challenges faced by scientists in spreading scientific knowledge. He also raised some advice concerning the work.

During the Symposium, altogether 31 papers were collected. LICP contributed 2.

The Symposium was jointly organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Lanzhou Municipal Committee, Lanzhou Association for Science and Technology, Lanzhou Daily, Lanzhou Radio and Television Station.
