The certificate award ceremony of CAS Visiting Professorships for Senior International Scientists was held at the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), CAS on April 26, 2011.

Mr. XIE Ming, the deputy president of Lanzhou Branch of CAS, on behalf of CAS, presented the certificate of CAS Visiting Professorship to Dr. Ryoichi Wada, who comes from Cyclotron Institute, Texas A&M University in U.S.A. XIE gave a brief introduction of Dr. Wada‘s academic background, the cooperation between Dr. Wada and IMP, as well as the Visiting Professorships Program of CAS. He also put forward suggestions for further collaboration. Dr. Wada expressed his expectation for the fruitful cooperation on the research work in the future.

Thereafter, Dr. Wada gave a talk titled Intermediate energy heavy ion reaction and transport model simulations, followed by heated discussions on cutting-edge topics in the field of intermediate energy heavy ion nuclear reaction.

Dr. Wada received his Ph.D. degree from Kyoto University in nuclear physics in 1979. Since then, he successively did scientific research at Berkeley national laboratory, GSI, and Texas A&M University. His research field is experimental nuclear physics and has made great achievements in the areas of intermediate and high energy heavy ion collisions, hot nuclear matter and reaction dynamics, formation of superheavy compound nuclei.

During his visit at IMP, Dr Wada will mainly focus on the scientific cooperation in the following research fields: (1) Hot nuclear matter and reaction dynamics study (2) nuclear stopping(3)Elastic scattering near the Coulomb barrier with exotic nuclei(4)Fusion cross section measurements between light nuclei near and below the Coulomb energy. He will also help with the education of the graduate students of the experimental nuclear physics center of IMP.

The CAS Visiting Professorships Program was launched in 2009. The aim of the Visiting Professorships Program is to enhance the science & technology innovation capacity of CAS institutes by inviting accomplished researchers from overseas to participate in research in CAS with the hope of strengthening the cooperation and exchange between CAS institutes and international research institutions and universities.
