The Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMP, CAS), and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) of Switzerland planned for cooperation in the Accelerator Driven System (ADS) project of China, which is a pilot project recently launched by CAS and is being carried out in IMP and its two other partners of CAS.
On May18, 2011, Dr Wolfgang Hoffelner, the Manager of High Temperature Materials Project, and Dr. Jiachao CHEN from PSI, visited IMP. The visitors and their counterparts in IMP held discussion on collaboration possibilities for ADS project of China. After the discussion, both sides drafted a cooperation framework and agreed to initial collaborative researches in three areas related to ADS, which are nuclear reactor physics, nuclear fuel preparation, and advanced materials.
The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is the largest research center for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. Its main focus of researches is structure of matter, energy and the environment, and human health. Dr. Hoffelner and Dr. CHEN have long been involved with researches in high temperature materials.
