German Research Funding Organizations Visited IMP

Delegates from German research funding organizations visited the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMP) on June 19th, 2012 in Lanzhou.

The delegation, headed up by Dr. René Haak, the first Counselor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of Germany in China, comprised the representatives from the German Research Foundation (DFG), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Helmholtz Association respectively.

The Director General of IMP, Professor Xiao Guoqing gave a warm welcome to the delegates. Dr. Zhao Hongwei, Deputy Director General of IMP presented an overview of IMP in terms of history, achievements, future plans as well as the academic collaboration between the IMP and German academic institutions over the past decades. 

Dr. René Haak and the representatives introduced the role and the functioning of their respective organizations and shared with IMP information about policies and approaches to cooperation between German and Chinese academic communities.

The delegation had a guided tour to the Cooler Storage Ring of Lanzhou Heavy Ion Accelerator and experimental facilities.

The visit to IMP of the three prominent German academic funding organizations is helpful to strengthen the research cooperation between IMP and its German partners.
