On September 25, 2012, Prof. Roberto Piriz (the third from the left in the figure) was awarded the Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientist of Chinese Academy of Sciences at Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMP).
Prof. Piriz is internationally recognized as an outstanding expert in the field of plasma physics and fluid dynamics applied to the physics of high energy density matter and inertial confinement fusion. He will collaborate on this subject with the staffs/students at the plasma physics group of IMP.
Prof. Piriz is at present full Professor of Castilla-La Mancha University in Spain, the head of the fluid and plasma research group, and the director of the Institute of Energy Research. Since 2002 he is a close collaborator of the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung (GSI) in Darmstadt Germany as a Visiting Scientist. He is also part of the HEDgeHOB [High Energy Density Matter Generated by Heavy Ion Beams] international collaboration for HEDP [High Energy Density Physics] research at FAIR [Facility for Antiprotons and Ion Research] by mean of intense heavy ion beams.
The Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientist of CAS is the CAS’s top recognition for outstanding cooperative work. The award was created in 2009 honoring the foreign scientists’ exceptional scholarly merit with a primary emphasis on the collaboration with their Chinese partners to advance the research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
