On Aug. 12, on behalf of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Guodong Cheng issued the certification of “2014 Einstein Professorship of Chinese Academy of Sciences” to Prof. Soroosh Sorooshian from University of California, Irvine, USA. At the award ceremony, the director of Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institution Ma Wei expressed welcome words to Prof. Sorooshian, and Prof. Li Xin introduced Prof. Soroosh Sorooshian's outstanding academic achievements. Prof. Lai Yuanming, assistant Liu Guangxiu and Wang Jindong also attended this award ceremony. Prof. Sorooshian is a distinguished international hydrological scientist, he makes outstanding academic contributions in water resources and climate change in arid and semi-arid regions, hydrological model parameterization and parameter estimation. Due to Prof. Sorooshian’s outstanding academic contributions, he was elected as the member of American National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Prof. Sorooshian is a pioneer in the field of hydrological model parameters calibration and uncertainty, he and his team explored the shuffled complex evolution algorithm, which laid the foundation of complex, nonlinear, multi parameter hydrological model parameters estimation and became a famous and widely used method all over the world. |
