A novel equipment  for treatment of chemical wastes daily formed in chemical or chemical-engineering laboratory has been fabricated by the scientists and engineers in the National Engineering Research Center of Fine Petrochemical Intermediates(NERC), Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. This equipment can convert those harmful chemical wastes into harmless water, carbon dioxide and inorganic compounds.

There are hundreds of chemical laboratories discharging liquid chemical waste in China. Although the quantity of liquid waste discharged is not that great, they are highly toxic environmental pollutants with complicated components and hard to be disposed. The common environmental treatment process can not meet the requirements of such chemical liquid waste. Using this new technology of pyrolysis -catalytic oxidation, this device developed by NERC in LICP first predecomposed the pollutants in the containers, of which the temperature could be adjusted, and then turned them into CO2, water, and inorganic matters through highly efficient catalytic reactors. Thus this harmless treatment of chemical waste liquid was realized. The device is completely automatically operated, easy to use and maintain.

The device can process about 50 kg waste per hour with the power consumption of no more than 5 kw/h. It can meet the needs of waste liquid treatment of a medium-sized research institute if operating 7 hours per day. It is of great significance to commercialize this device in research institutes and institutions in universities.
