On March 11, 2010, the Institute of Modern Physics(IMP), CAS, held the 2010 evaluation meeting for beam time applications of physics experiments at the 320 kV Platform for Multi-discipline Research with Highly Charged Ions of NLHIRFL(National Laboratory for Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou).
Users from ten scientific institutions submitted the experiment applications. The users reported their experimental goals, plans and expected results. After careful review and discussion, the evaluation committee approved 32 experiment applications, with the beam time totaling 5000 hours.
The 320 kV Platform can provides ions like H+,Heq+,Cq+, Nq+, Oq+,Neq+,Arq+,Krq+,Xeq+(q<30), and some molecule ions, as well as metal Bi(q<30) ions, with the energy (15-320)*q keV (q is the charge state of the ions). The platform has 5 experimental terminals for the different studies such as ion-atom/molecule/cluster/biomolecule collisions, ion-surface interaction, ion-solid and ion-micro-capillaries interactions. The platform started commissioning since 2007 and more than 60 experiments from domestic and foreign users were performed. In 2009, the 320 kV Platform passed the appraisal by Gansu Provincial Sci. & Tech. Department, and the evaluation committee agreed that the 320 kV Platform for Multi-discipline Research with Highly Charged Ions and its technologies play a leading role in the world, the platform can be opened to domestic and foreign experimental users.
