The scientific evaluation meeting organized by Gansu Provincial Sci. & Tech. Department and Lanzhou Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was held at Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), CAS in Lanzhou on March 13, 2010. The project of Research and Industrialization of the Mutation Breeding of Streptomyces Avermitilis Irradiated by Heavy Ion Beamreceived high evaluation.
The project is conducted jointly by IMP and Gansu Xuejing Biochemical Co., Ltd, and supported by Academy-Locality Cooperation Project of CAS. The members of the evaluation committee reviewed the presentation given by the project coordinator and examined the sci-tech novelty retrieval report, the sample test report, the pilot production fermentationauthorization, the production line construction drawings, and other relevant documents. The committee agreed that the project qualified all the specifications in the designs with its advanced technology and reliable data. It is a step forward to use heavy ion beam irradiation mutagenesis for screening Abamectin bacteria. The obtained strains were used for 1 ton fermentation tank amplification tests, resulting in the optimization of the fermentation techniques. The fermentation titer of the B1a 4600μg/ml by the pilot 5-ton fermentation tank reached the leading level of the domestic industry in China.
Avermectins is a biological pesticide with high efficiency, broad-spectrum, long validity, drug-resistance-proof, easy degradation, non-residue and other features. It is widely used for agricultural chemicals and veterinary drugs. The achievement of the project will play an important role in improving the avermectin production, reducing production costs and enhancing the competitive power of the enterprises. Gansu Xuejing Biochemical Co., Ltd has performed the market investigation, the project feasibility study and the environmental assessment. The avermectins project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2011.
