The first 5T active shielded high homogeneous superconducting magnet developed by Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), CAS, has been energized and the magnetic field was measured on March 16, 2011. As the scaled prototype of the superconducting magnet, its structure and manufacture technology are similar to the formal one for Lanzhou Penning Trap.
The magnet has a central magnetic field of 5 Tesla and a bore of Φ120mm in diameter, the 5 Gauss line is about 1.5m from center, the field homogeneity is better than 10-4 in the Φ40 mm spherical good field region. The magnet coil has 6 windings, which wound on the especially designed stainless steel bobbin. Its structure is shown in Fig. 1.
After several quenches, the magnetic field could reach 5.372T, as shown in Fig. 2. The field distribution along the axis is shown in Fig. 3. The field homogeneity reached ±6×10-5, as shown in Fig. 4.
The success of the 5T superconducting magnet verified the effectiveness and validity of the structure and some key technologies of 7T superconducting magnet.
